I have a Craftsman LT 1000 (Model # 917.272670) that wont start. It doesn't want to turn over but if I turn the flywheel it will turn on and then stops. When I take the spark plug out everything does like it should. I don't know much about mowers so I need some help on what the problem could be and how to fix it.
With what you tell us, the first place I would start is with the battery. Make sure you have 12.6v before trying to start and at least 10v while cranking. Make sure all connections are tight and clean.. Also try to start with a jumper battery or a jumper charger. If it turns over with a jumper probably bad battery.
If you have a battery charger you hook the negative cable to a good engine ground and the touch the positive cable to the terminal on the starter. It should turn the engine over if the starter is good.
