Hey guys,

Gota briggs and Stratton 20hp engine model # 319977 06 70
It was working loud then stopped. Decided to take it apart. Several broken pieces. Replaced all. New camshaft, timing gear, woodruff key. Made extra sure timing was correct when putting all back. Adjusted both valves to .004.

When trying to start, it won't. Even cleaned the carb. Nothing. Verified there is spark in spark plug by taking it out and attaching it to metal. Did compression test and getting 110 psi. Tried using starting fluid and even that doesn't help. It doesn't even sound like it's trying to start with the starting fluid.

It does turn and I even jumped it with battery jumper just in case. No luck.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

You may have sheared the flywheel key from not torquing the nut enough.

Check the coil to see if it got put on upside down, should say flywheel side on it . and check your air gap

Fish was absolutely right. Sheer key. Replaced it and properly tightened it to 100ft lb and now its running. Thank you!
