Which is the best motor out there?? Kohler, Kawasaki, or Briggs Vangaurd

Still trying to decide on a mower to buy and wanted to get opinions on the motors.

Kohler, Briggs, and last Kawasaki in that order. Not many agree with me but Kawasaki would be last on my list, lot of major problems and very expensive parts. The main thing I like about Kohler is they give you a free service manual on line.

Briggs and Stratton Vanguard the best engine ever made.
Everybody else is just copying what they have done.
Next would be the Honda GX range.
Kohler and Kawasaki would be at the bottom of the list.

My opinion would be Briggs Vanguard, Kohler Command, don't know much about Kawasaki except parts for a lot of there engines are OEM exclusive parts (available through OEM of the mower).

something that bugs me sometimes is the incorrect terminology used by various people. Gas or diesel powered products are called engines. Motors are electric only.

Yes it did throw me off also Re: Motors BUT this is just a fun time forum and who cares. I sure hope it isn't a spelling or english langage class. Once I read what was said I knew what Predsfan42 was talking about. Now for some reason they say outboard motors not engines for boats?

Hmmmm, electric motors only. Sooooo, motor oil is only for electric motors? Or is it for engines? Someone needs to tell all the engine oil companies about this wording. Or is it the motor oil companies we need to speak with?

OMG we just did this 6 months ago. We all knew what he was asking. When some one down here says the car won't crank they mean it won't start but turns over just fine Now I know you did not think he was asking about a electric motor

It's easy to see why people used the term "motor":
Motorcycle
Motorist
Motorway
General Motors corp.
Motor boat
Motorcade
Ford motor co.

Yada yada yada

I was being sarcastic about the engine versus motor terminology. Across the board they are used interchangebly. You are right about the outboard engine things. People refer to engines in cars and truck as motors also. I think it comes from people refer to any power source in a piece of equipment, or vehicle as a motor.

Short for gasoline a manufactured petroleum product. Why do you call cigarettes fags?

Gotta disagree with putting Kawasaki at the bottom of the list guys. My toro has a 22hp Kawasaki on it and it's fantastic. I own a lawn service and it's on it's 3rd season and I've had 0 problems. My next toro will definitely be Kawasaki powered!

Fag" is short for "faggōt". A faggōt is (among other items) a smouldering bundle of twigs or tinder that you might use to start a bonfire or such. That pretty well describes a cigarette, too.

I sure hope you guys are wrong about Kawasaki. I bought a new tractor last year with one of their 26 hp engine/motor. So far it has been great. I have also had both B & S, Kohler and have no complaints on either.

You got what you got. Enjoy and don't worry what is said. Just because it would be my last choice doesn't make it a bad engine. I don't care what engine you have there is no 100% guarantee of no problims so don't even give it a thought. The only engines I have heard that can give a lot of problims is some of the Chinese made and not all of them??

I agree. You will hear bad things about every brand of engine. The report about one engine failure travels far faster than a hundred reports about the ones that last a decent amount of time.

Huh...well that's interesting...is anybody else wondering how effeminate males are referred to as "fags" or "faggots" in this country?
I don't see what that has to do with smoldering twigs.....

I've had OK luck with all the brands mentioned. I'n not a fan of the Kohler Courage line, but their Command series seems pretty durable. I've got a Briggs Vanguard in my CC 2164, and that is a very nicely made piece, IMHO. Whatever it is, careful operation and maintenance will help prolong its life.

Thanks everyone. Didnt know we get into a pissing match between everyone. Motor/engine its all the samething.

Kinda of interesting that everyone put kawasaki at the bottom.

I like the Briggs the kohler courage I would stay away from and for Kawasaki I have a 14hp on a Jhon Deere and wouldn't trade for anything
