I recently replaced the carb, oil, oil filter, air filter, and spark plug on my LT1000. It is misfiring and then stalls out. Anyone have any suggestions on what to try?

We need the product label information and the engine number information. The LT1000 came in many design changes through the years and just guessing never works.

Here are a couple of pics. I "think" it is model 917.272352, but not sure. It has a Briggs & Stratton 21 HP 540cc engine; I do not have the serial number. Attached is the only sticker visible that has some specs. Hope this helps!

Hello G,

"You are getting warmer". Clean the valve rocker cover off. there will be a set of numbers stamped into the top (unless someone has had it off and now it is installed upside down) These numbers provide the B&S engine information only.

That label under the hood is a convenient common replacement parts and accessory label that Craftsman riders typically have.

There is a Chassis product information label usually under the seat on the chassis or affixed to the seat bottom, Craftsman also tended to place them at the very rear or on the side of the frame.

Your initial problem description indicates a possible fuel restriction such as in the fuel tank pick up tube, or fuel nipple fitting. Bugs, dirt and old grass clippings tend to populate in those. It creates this kind of running and stalling out issue.

Next suspect item is the spark plug. If it came from an online source, throw it away and put a correct parts store Champion or NGK plug in it.

Last idea that comes to mind for the moment is possible water in the fuel.

OK - I was able to clean (for the most part) what I think is the rocker cover & attached are a couple of pics.
I think the model is - 2 followed by some strange symbol, 3H07
Type - 0399 E1
Code - 050607ZE

Fuel is not old and I use rec fuel only, so I don't think there is water in fuel. Should I go ahead and drain fuel in case there are bugs, dirt or grass clippings causing problem? I looked in tank and it appears clean. Is the fuel nipple in the bottom of fuel tank?

Chinese Scamazon or Fleabay carb?

You do know that pulling your credit card and buying any new part, that part requires TESTING. New does not mean new.

I actually kept the original carb and replaced the float & gasket only since that was the initial problem.

Thanks - I'll take off the shroud and clean it up.

Model 917.272352

Engine Number 283H07-0399-E1 > 16 hp 466 cc per your image of the rocker cover.

Original Engine per IPL 31C707-0230-E1 17.5 HP 501 cc.

So either someone change the shroud or the rocker cover or both.

Hmmmm - I would not know since I bought it used, years ago. Any recommendations to resolve issue?
