Lo Oil message on LCD monitor

This past Friday I took delivery on a new RTZ S Cub Cadet lawn tractor and it did an amazing job mowing my yard the next day. However, as I glanced at the LCD display while putting it away I saw a blinking message that said "Lo Oil." Upon checking the oil I found that the dipstick showed it was full. I checked again this morning and the "Lo Oil" message is still there and the oil gauge still shows full. I haven't been able to reach the dealer yet although I left a message asking him to call me. The "Customer Support" I found for Cub Cadet on the internet requires a deposit of $18.00 just to ask a question so here I am on this forum. Anyone else have this problem with their 2015 Cub Cadet lawn tractor?

kr, I'm winging this...LCD says it is an electronic signal to the display. Get a schematic to trace the wire input and location. There is probably a float switch that opens and closes in the sump. That wire connector and any grounds should be examined for tight, including at the dash. It is always possible the switch is stuck on or off also.

IMO charging fees to consult is an insult. Reminds me of bullxxxx from a Mercedes dealer.

I purchased an RZT-S 42 last year, and it's done this exact same thing since day 1. I've seen the same complaint from others (LO OIL, oil at full mark on dipstick) on other forums. I wish someone would figure it out. I hate to drag this thing in for warranty service over something so silly.

Any other RZT-S owners have this problem?

I spoke to a Level 2 tech at MTD. He said that the LO OIL message is driven by the pressure switch, and it's expected if you key on but don't start the engine. He said the time to worry is when the engine is running and you get this message.

I told him that the user manual is misleading in how it describes this check is done. We reviewed that page of the manual together, and he's going to send a note to their technical writing department.

The mfgr and the tech are wrong to call the warning "low oil." When it is on at idle it may simply be that the turn on point is below oil pump pressure at idle even with oil level normal. On the other hand if that light comes on above idle it is very serious and should be described as "no oil," requiring immediate shut down. IMO the light should also include a loud buzzer. Another danger is that if the warning light is not matched to idle pressure the operator may adopt the "cry wolf" syndrome and ignore because of its false signal at idle, and then also ignore it when real (engine burns up). I am a big fan of oil pressure and oil temp gauges. An accurate oil "level" gauge would be great, but I could only find ref to Honda using them recently. :2cents:
