Lawnflite 504 - What are these wires for?

I'm looking at a friend's lawnmower, it's a Lawflight 504, and the two wires coming from the coil have been detached. Can anybody tell me where they're supposed to go? I'm guessing the brown wire from the coil goes to the red wire (as per the green line I've drawn in the picture), and the black wire from the coil goes to an earth (as per the blue line I've drawn in the picture)?

First of all that is the stator not the coil. Get yourself a wiring diagram.

As you can see, I know my way around a computer far better than I do an engine ;)

So the coil is on the end of the lead that goes to the spark plug right?

Looking at this wiring diagram: http://www.worldofmowers.ltd.uk/Upload/Images/Assemblies/4ce9ba95-c1ed-4cb7-a697-a7f8eef88a36.jpg
...I can't see the stator. The Magneto referred to in the diagram is the coil right?

I'm thinking what you call the brown wire is / was a red wire. See if this helps. Buy Spare Parts for LAWNFLITE (1988/1989) 138-504-611 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MODEL 504 - Powertool Spares

The wiring diagrams aren't very clear. Looks like black go's to negative. Red or brown? looks like the charging wire. That would go to the voltage regulator as the feed wire.

Believe it goes to the solenoid via the key switch. This illustration is a bit better. MTD 135-504-141 - Lawnflite Lawn Tractor (1985) (WS Badcock) Electrical, Electric Start Diagram and Parts List | PartsTree.com
