My friend had bought a house and in the shed was a LawnBoy Supreme Model number 4656. Has a 20 inch aluminum deck but I dont know much else about it. Does is carry any value at all ? Or do you think it is best to try and get it running for them to use.

I think the mower is probably worth fixing but not really a collector's item -- not old enough (mid-1980s). You might check out this link for parts if you're interested in fixing it. Note that you need the serial number to fully ID the mower.

I'd bet that there isn't much wrong with the engine -- probably just needs to have the carb cleaned. Those engines last a long, long time.
