Lawnboy Silver PRo - Self Propel Problem

Hey Guys,

I hope that you can help me. My 10 plus year old Silver Pro Series Model only has one drive wheel working. It is the one on the left side nearest the drive pulley that is failing. I tried greasing everything and I pulled the wheel off and greased the through bolt / axle.

Any ideas what could be causing the failure?

Can the rear drive transmission be rebuilt or should it be replaced.....is it even still available?

I love this mower....it is so light compared to others I have had and I have a huge 30 degree hill in my front yard.....that does it's toll on 4 cycles.

Thanks in advance for any input you can provide.

Have you check to see if the drive key is broke or missing? How does the drive gear look? Please post the model number and I'll try to find you a diagram.

No I haven't taken the gearbox apart yet....that is my next step. I am thinking that you are probably right. The model number is Silver Pro 10323.

Yes, any documents you can post would be great. I just bought a new deck for this mower. The original stamped steel deck developed a crack by one of the front wheels.

The replacement deck looks more sturdy and has steel inserts under the deck in the chute area where the ones on the original deck are made from molded plastic.

Thanks LBL

If one wheel is working, then the transmission is working, as it is a solid driveshaft to both wheels. In other words the shaft that comes out both sides of transmission is one piece thru the transmission. It can only be the gear on the end of the shaft that engages the wheel. The gear has some parts inside that allow you to pull back on the mower without the drive pulling it forward when you release the bail. I would suspect this gear.
