Posting for my neighbor's Lawn Boy issues.

L21ZPM I think is from the mid 90's or so. Two stroke engine. Has not run for several years. Seems to have no spark. He replaced the ignition coil/module with a brand new one. It looks to have the gap to the flywheel set correctly. New spark plug too. I think this is a solid state ignition since there did not appear to be any wires coming from under the flywheel. Carb recently cleaned. Tried a bit of ether and still no fire. Disconnected the kill wire and no difference. Unsure what to look at next on it.

Did u look under the flywheel- is it points ignition(i don't fiddle much with LB's)? if yes, bad condensor???
Maybe you got a lemmon ignition coil(unlikely but u never know). Or else, even though flywheel magnet seems strong, it may need a new flywheel magnet. I've seen that a few times.

It is a model F engine and utilizes CDI ...No points.

How are you checking for spark?

We tried with the plug out and grounded with the ignition wire attached and pulled it over quickly. No spark observed. Also with the plug installed and a bit of ether/starting fluid in the intake not even a hint of firing.

There were different types of CDI's used on some models.
Some were ground to run whilst most were open to run.
Try both to eliminate the possibility.

One other thing to try if this still fails.
