Hello everyone, i just bought a curved spike lawn aerator that attaches on the back of my lawn tractor. I don't know much about lawn aeration so i'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks

Take it back and trade it for a plug areator.

So the spike ones are not any good? I got the aerator mainly because my backyard if pretty hard compacted soil and my front is feeling "spongy" i believe to all the thatch and moist soil.
I was hoping aerating it would dry it out a little.

All you're really doing when you do spike aeration is compacting the soil even more. You need to use a plug type aerator to remove and open up the soil so the soil and grass can breath and drain better. You normally have to do this once a year. So it would be best to just rent one for a day.
