I have a Husqvarna YTK24K48, I think. I may have the first 3 letters incorrect. It has a mid-mounted mowing deck with 3 blades.

A new development is that it runs fine without the mower engaged. But, once the mower is engaged, it sounds as if the engine is laboring. When I shut the blades off, there's a "hissing" sound, as if there's an hydraulic issue. But, there are no hydraulics, as far as I know.

Does anyone have any thoughts on trouble-shooting the problem?

check pulleys and idlers for a bad bearing...
hissing could be PTO clutch parts dragging?

Lift the deck and check that the blades spin freely

What is the "idler?"

Would a mid-mount mower (Husqvana) have a PTO? I hope I have my terms correct. It's my understanding that the mid-mower blades are belt-driven.

An idler is round...looks kind of like a pulley but has a flat surface (not a "V") that the BACK of the belt runs on...They guide the belt and can be on a spring loaded arm to keep a belt tight.


How do you make your mower blades turn?
If by pulling a button...you have a PTO.

The side of the engine that power the blades is called a PTO cause that is where the drive for the impliment , (Blades, Blower, Tiller etc ) comes from.
Some times it is the extension of the crank other times it is an extension bolted to the flywheel.
Gets confusing to people used to calling a splined drive shaft a PTO.

Pulleys can be drive as in on your engine, driven as in on the blade spindle or just spin & do no work there fore like me they are "bone idle "
A 2 blade deck will typically have 2 idlers and a 3 blade deck 3 or 4 .
So what you have been asked to do is slip the belt off, spin all the blades & pulleys checking for stiffness, roughness or rumbling .
These things place a heavy load on the mower.

So before we start pulling the engine apart it is prudent to check the mower first
