Somewhat lacking in info to diagnose I would think. Have you ruled out a tranny issue? That has been a common issue with several owners of other smaller JD mowers.

Is it belt drive, if so adjust the belt or renew it.
No not a transmission problem ,so I am going to get the belt checked and the linkeage from the pedal to the transaxle . Thanks for the help . p.s if I was to up grade to a zero turn which would be the best choice John Deere Z245 or the Husqvarna RZ 4623 Thank`s again for the tip in trans problem
The L118 doesn't really have a bad transmission problem plaguing it like the L120 and L130. Try adjusting the belt and/or replacing it. This belt is less than $20.00 here plus $6.99 shipping. That would be your cheapest repair before tearing it down! http://http://www.greenfarmparts.com/John_Deere_Flat_Belt_GX20006_p/gx20006.htm Good luck!
