Looking to mount 2 L E D lights on the front of my john deere z 930 but not sure how big to go without burning up the charging system. looking at a pair of LEDs that are 1.46 amps, 18 watts and 1800 lumens. Any ideas on what might work so I can finish mowing a lawn that I start and then it gets dark before I get done.

I'm not an electrician, but below is a link to a post where I added a pair of automaotive off-road halogen driving lights to my Gravely ZTR and they are working out well for me. If you are like me adding your own kit will be much less expensive than buying a Gravely or John Deere kit!!

I have been following your post about the lights that you added, just wanted to make sure that I didn't burn up the charging unit. Dealer said it was possible to burn it up, but they do sell a light kit for about 225.00 dollars which is insane.

Regular halogen automotive driving lights will pull nearly 10 amps. I, and many others, have run them on mowers for years without any issues. LED lights pull a fraction of the amperage of halogen lights. I believe the ones you're interested in are rated at 1.46 amps. You would have to install some very powerful LED lights to overload your charging system. I'm assuming the charging system on your mower is putting out at least 12 amps. Unless you have a very weak alternator and an electric PTO clutch, you're good.....

went with some 55 watt halogen lights, mounted to rops and hooked to a extra battery I run on the floor between my feet. I want to see if they are going to be bright enough before I hard wire them, thanks for the info.

If I were using my halogen lights "A LOT", I would have a "little" concern about the amperage draw, but as much as I use them I'm not the least bit worried(and I've never had my mower "hesitate to start" after using them which could indicate the draw did not allow the battery to stay at full charge with the charging system output when I used them). But it's your ZTR, so I would recommed due diligence based upon the amperage draw by the light kit you bought.

I was just wondering why you would want a light kit. Do you do a lot of mowing at night time? Is it for higher visibility? Like I say, just wondering.
