I've noticed lately whenever I'm mowing and have it running at full speed afterwards when I'm done mowing and throttle the engine down to idle even though the lever is in the idle position, the engine is still running high rpms, and slowly goes back down to idle. Could the cable be stretched, or slipping??????
I guess I explained this question clearly.
Have you checked to see if the throttle is closing on the carb. A build up of dirt or need of a bit if lube may help you out.

Carb is free of dirt.
But I noticed,_where the cable goes to the carb, and it comes out of the "dash" it had 2 loops in it. I have no idea how that happened, but it hasn't had the problem since I straightened it out.

Well, it did it again today. and when it would run at idle it would struggle to keep running, and cut out/sputter ever few seconds, and when i first started it, it was surging but it stopped.
And every now again, like 1 or 2 times a minute i would hear kind of a "thump thump thump thump thump." kind of like when you pull a suction cup off of something.
