Kids are tough on grass. Worse is when there is a swing or slide, when they tend to scuff holes in the lawn. What grass would stand up to this treatment best, or how else can I protect it?

Astro turf, placed over concrete .....:biggrin:??
Heavy kid traffic will remove any kind of grass or vegetation ...
But that is what reseeding and relocating playground equipment is all about. :smile:KennyV

Yeah, I would LOVE to have some of that nifty rubber mulch under my kids' play sets outside. Right now, most of them are over areas in the shade that don't grow much (as I mentioned in my other thread), so "messing up the grass" isn't a concern there, at least!

Hope you find something hardy and kid-resistant!

The rubber mulch is good when you don't worry about having grass underneath. I've used rubber safety mats in the past, that have holes in them. The grass grows up through it. Although it dies in the solid patches, the holes are enough to keep it alive and it quickly spreads back out.

Eeeewww, not astroturf! That stuff is awful when you fall over on it-nothing worse for skinning your knees on!

I might look into the play mats. They sound like a reasonable solution and at least would give kid protection as well as protecting the lawn.
