When throttling down my engine, unless I do it particularly slowly, it will give a single pop very loudly from the exhaust. It will also do this if I shut it down from a low idle speed. I read something about the idle circuit continuing to draw gas into the exahust stream on shut down, but this doesn't seem to explain why it also happens on a normal or rapid throttle down. The plugs are still running, so why the pop?

Brand new 24HP Kholer 7000 series engine.

Rapid throttle down causes a backpressure in the muffler and the in rush of air ignites the unburnt fuel vapors in the mufffler, same as it does when shut off at idle.

It has a governed idle circuit. I find if you will speed the idle up a tad it will stop it when you idle it down.

I love it when they do this. Just like Uncle Buck's Ford LTD LOL.

As ILENGINE said, it's unburned fuel in the muffkin.

Thanks for the replies. I think it makes a brand new $3000 tractor sound like shit, but I guess everything has it's quirks.

Does it not have a carb solenoid hanging off the bottom of the carb bowl? Couple wires going to it?
