John Deere mower that dies.

my john deere mower dies and then backfires but starts again.................until this last time. I tried
starting it twice and both times it would not start but then backfired.
any suggestions...........other than wait until Monday and call john deere to come and get and fix?
trying to get mowing done, looks like rain. plus, it needs mowing.

I would really love to help you but as I have no idea which of the 742 different JD mowers you have, I would have to write 55 ages in order to cover all of the possabilities.

I'm working on a john deere d130 22hp 42" with similar issue. The owner said he would be cutting and then after a bit would hesitate backfire and die. He had someone look at it and all he did was crank the idle screw all the way up to keep it running and charged him $100. I got it and it worked fine at first. Pulled both plugs and looked good relatively new. So I backed the idle screw down to a normal idle and it ran fine. After a few days of running it I noticed a small hesitation at full throttle and when moving forward. Ran it a bit then pulled the plugs. Found right side plug was cool to the touch and had just a little oil on it and no smell or residue of any fuel. Next I pulled the carb off and cleaned it best I could. Ran a little wire and cleaner through all 4 of the jets and all passages I could see. It seems to run ok now and the right side plug is operation like it should. Also, I talked to a local small engine repair shop and the tech said he'd seen several like mowers like that and had to put new carburetors in and some had less than 10 hrs. Has anyone had this issue of coming and going fuel issue? I just dont want to send it on it's way a d in 2 days from now it be back for the same issue. Also I dont want to replace the carburetor for nothing either.
