John Deere Model 100 blade engagrment

I recently put a different motor in my John Deere 100 mower. It runs but when I engage the pto switch to start the blades, it kills the engine? Any thoughts

kills the engine as if
1) engine overloaded & stalls
2) stone dead like you turned it off.

Which engine did you fit ?
Did it plug strait in and if so did you check the pin out to ensure all of the electrics actually were correct ?
