Hey Gang:
I thought I would post a thread on a JS63C John Deere Lawn Mower. My neighbor gave it to me and it was in pretty rough shape maintenance wise. Anyway after several hours going through the mower and fixing almost everything (e.g. recoil starter, air filter, spark plug). It actually runs very nice.

However I have a transmission problem that I don't understand. When free wheeling (lever not engaged), forward the wheel transmission seems to bind like its in park or something. However I can turn the mower left with no binding from transmission. When I try to turn right the transmission binds again. Is there something wrong with this transmission? What should be the behavior of the transmission when free wheeling (e.g. transmission not engaged)? Should I be able to turn left and right freely? Is the transmission serviceable (e.g. gear oil or grease)? Or defective?

When I pull the transmission lever I get normal engagement.

Thanks.
