JOHN DEERE JS30 SELF PROPELLED WILL NOT PULL

My JS30 self-propelled John Deere mower will not pull. I adjusted the cable as shown in the manual. No help. The pulley on the transmission turns however there wasn't enough tension on the pulley when engaged to pull the lawnmower - only a slight pull like it was trying to pull. When lifting the back of the lawn mower wheels off the ground, the wheels turn. Even though the drive belt was NOT broken or frayed, I decided to replace it thinking it was stretched. So I replaced the drive belt with the specified John Deere replacement belt GX22269 and the mower pulled, but only for about 20 minutes. Then it stopped pulling again with the same identical symptoms. It's as if the new belt stretched - not sure how that could be though. That belt seems loose as it did before. All the pulleys assemblies are tight and the tension spring to engage the speed control has been adjusted.

I'm totally confused as to why the drive worked after installing a new belt but not working after only 20 minutes of mowing. Have these models had this problem? If so, one would think John Deere would be using a better or shorter replacement belt? Not sure what to do. Need someone's help with solving this problem. Many thanks.
