I have the John Deere 185 and it has the Eaton transmission in it. My problem is the transmission is surging at all speeds but the full forward and the full reverse.
I have all manuals for the tractor. Does any one have any idea which part in the Eaton transmission that could be causing the problem? I'm thinking it is the pintle assembly with the dampening pistons, dump valve and the check valves. This thing is surging badly but runs well wide open.

As most repairs before you the actually disassembly make you can get all the possible parts needed along the service manual covering the Eaton. JD's service manual covering the 185 does have most of the repair info on the Eaton.
