I have a John Deere D140 (8 years old). I started mowing and went to engage the blades with PTO knob and the blades wouldn't engage. I got off to investigate and when tried to restart it nothing. No lights, no starter or anything. Here is what I have checked so far.
1. Made sure PTO switch was in off to restart
2. Took battery to auto shop and tested good and cleaned connections
3. Removed ignition switch and tested with multimeter for continuity
4. Checked continuity from positive battery cable to solenoid was good
5. Checked cable from solenoid to starter with multitester and was good.
6. Checked brake safety pedal switch and it was okay
7. Checked oil level
8. Checked light bulbs
9. Checked safety seat switch
10.visually inspected wires for damage.

Thanks in advance for any help.

One thing you didn't mention checking is the main fuse.

Also test the PTO electrical coil and make its resistance is between 1.7-4.0 ohms if below 1.7 ohms consider the PTO electrical coil shorted and replace the PTO clutch assy.

I will look into the PTO Electrical coil, sorry I did check the fuse, but forgot to mention
