John Deere D110 smoking

Was driving over to my son's place the other day when the D110 started to smoke. It is a 19hp Briggs and Stratton with regular maintenance. I had just changed the oil and thought maybe I had put too much oil in but it is burning oil as the oil keeps going down on dipstick. Any suggestions before I have to tear it down and check the oil ring. Mower only has a 100hrs on it.

only 100 hours? Did you buy from a dealer or Box store?

Bought it in 2014 from Lowes but if I had any problems under warranty it went to a JD dealer

Will have to check the crank case breather for an obstruction

So these engines are known to blow head gaskets so today I changed it

You can see where the gasket is damaged

And where it blew by on the head

Clean up head

And installed new gasket, notice the size difference of the new gasket.
