I have replaced the lower pulley as the bearings were shot and now the belt has snapped twice in two weeks. it seems the cause is the upper two pulleys get loose during mowing. i get them tight as i can before installing the new belt and i can't figure out what i have done in error. What might be causing both pulley's to become loose? Might i have lost a washer or something?

dave, where did you go?

What do you mean by upper?... a pulley on top of another?

Do these pulleys have "V"s or are they smooth pulleys?

How do you know when they are tight? How do you know when they are loose?

what is the difference? Can you describe it?

Are you using a lawn mower belt? Or an automotive belt?

Remove deck & inspect everything, check for too much play in idler arms mounting to deck. Let us know what you find, thanks.
