John Deere 190C wouldn't start previously an now PTO will not engage

Since spring my 190C was having issues of not starting (nothing, no clicking, nothing) and I had to put charger on every time until I broke down and bought a new battery, after that started every time with no problem. Fast forward to yesterday when It happened again in the middle of mowing and charged it and back to mowing. Then a new problem showed its ugly head, my PTO would not engage. I am average mechanically gifted but not the greatest in troubleshooting. Could anyone give me a few pointers on how to determine by process of elimination what this may be. I know there are clutch safety switches and of course if the PTO is engaged it also will not start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Inspect PTO switch & harness connection at backside of dash & clutch itself for rust or corrosion. Operators manual should have specs. for air gap in windows on clutch. Let us know how it goes, thanks, Mark
