Inherited a slightly neglected John Deer L110 riding mower last year. This year I decided to give it some TLC and do all the PM so I wouldn't have to worry about it not working. Long story short, I removed the 42 inch mower deck to grease the zerk fittings on the spindles. I also cleaned out a bunch of old grass and dirt from around the pulleys and inside the one pulley cover. I put the deck back on and the belt is so loose it won't spin the blades even with the tensioner set as tight as it can go. I made sure the belt was routed correctly and was on the pulleys properly. I even put the pulley cover back on thinking maybe that created some tension on the belt but no luck. Then I thought maybe the grass/debris that was trapped under the mower stretched the belt, so I bought a brand new OEM belt and I get the same results.
The belt will spin the blades only if the mower is set to the highest setting. The lower I put the setting for the level of cut the looser the belt gets and eventually there is not enough tension to spin the blades at all.
Any ideas? I am in awe that I have been defeated by a John Deer riding mower deck belt!:confused2:
