JD Z225 Randomly Wont Start

My John Deere Z225 is having some starting issues. Sometimes it starts up right away with no issues. However, I often just get a click sound when I turn the key. If you keep trying eventually it will start. The battery / charge is not the issue. The 1st time it happened I just put a new one in and same problem. If you do the screw driver trick on the solenoid, the motor will turn over but not fire. Maybe a dead spot on the starter?

Thanks...

When you jump the solenoid the key needs to be on for the engine to start.

Sounds like a loose wire or a bad ground.

(( racing is the only sport that you need two balls ))

I don't know if this the the engine with the solenoid mounted on the starter or not. but if it is the solenoid also engages the starter gear into the flywheel. Over time the starter bendix will get dirty preventing the gear from fully engaging, and the solenoid contacts don't make contact, hence the click.
