JD D140 Mower Parts Source

Just wanted to know opinions concerning parts sourcing. I occasionally work on mowers and usually the focus is on the mower deck: spindles, pulleys, belts, etc. I've ordered original equipment replacement parts and parts from Amazon. I do not really see a difference and have not had any failures with either. Pricing is definitely where the difference lies. Currently working on a JD D140 lawn tractor. It needs three new spindles, all idler pulleys, deck belt, drive belt and a tune-up kit. What are your thoughts?

Because I’ve work at my own business and for other businesses, unless I have no other choice, I always purchase and use OEM parts. My bottom line and reputation are not worth trying to save a couple of bucks. Plus, it is far easier to make a warranty claim, if I do get a bad part.

Is this a customer machine or one you are repairing for yourself?

I tend to use Ebay and buy the 8ten deck rebuild kits that have most everything needed.

Anything John Deere will usually be higher priced anyway.

John Deere only makes the basic chassis, hoods and deck stampings for their mowers, the rest of the parts are outsourced in bulk from various parts suppliers, and the riders are built/ assembled at their plant in Greenville TN.

I've seen plenty of JD mower parts boxes and bags over the years, but it's been a long time since I have seen any of the mower parts actually have genuine JD casting numbers or stampings.

This model D140 rider was built by JD from 2011 through 2017.
