Usual suspect is the float valve failing allowing fuel to overfill the carb then trickle down into the engine ( thank the EPA for that ) and end up diluting the oil.
Remove the carb and clean the float needle & seat ( may need replacing ) then fit an in line tap between the tank & the carb and turn the fuel off when finished mowing.
