I'll let you decide. Basically, it's nothing more than a 12" string trimmer with a snap-on base that provides two height adjustment positions and keeps the trimmer lever for uniform cutting. Black and Decker touts this as suitable for very small yards up to 700 sq ft area. You can buy the complete assembly for about $150 or the base alone if you already have the trimmer for about $60.

Actually, right now it's cheaper to buy the trimmer and base separately. Amazon is selling the LST220 trimmer/edger with two batteries and a charger for only about $66, and the MTD100 base for about $59, which is $25 less than the combo package.
