intake issue

I have a 11.5 hp Briggs with intake valve issue. On the compression stroke the intake is open .005, when the piston is about 1/2 inch from top dead center it closes. At tdc the valve tappit gap is .007. Thanks in advance, Joe

Been awhile, but seem to remember that some of the older flat L headed briggs kept the intake open slightly almost to TDC. They were designed that way for easier starting, but didn't have a mechanical release. Just a cam lobe shape that held it open.

Thanks for the reply. I will slap it back together, and clean up the carb. i will let everyone know the outcome.
