All engines have a choke. Even EFI has them. They go about it in different ways. You have an auto choke. When the engine is cold it engages and as the engine warms it disengages. EFI just throws more fuel through the injectors till warm.
Just be careful about playing with the idle speed, because there was issues with the early models that had the idle speed too low, and prevented the auto choke from opening properly causing rough running.
