I've never been into vintage tractors. When I was a kid I used to watch the big modern farm tractors out in the field and was fascinated by them... not by the old narrow front end tractors that just looked old and ugly to me.
But now, I think I'm starting to develop a keen interest in a vintage JD 110. Something about a restored mower from the 60s or 70s is quite appealing. It's no wonder, I also have a soft spot for some cars from the 60s, though find myself driving a new car for reliability/features/comfort/performance/etc.
All of that said, I was browsing craigslist this evening and found this 1965 John Deere 110 for $850... while it's not the cheapest 110 around, it looks like it's in great shape. Good thing it's in Michigan and I'm in California or else I'd probably find myself $850 poorer in the next couple of weeks. Of course, the other issue is that my lawn is about 1/10 of an acre. :thumbdown:

personally i like to buy those in need of TLC,much more satisfying to me to bring them back to life and put them back in service for another 30 years.:wink:
A restoration project is appealing as well... but the challenge is finding a used mower in a market where very few people mow their lawns. There isn't that much grass and most lawns are taken care of by lawn services. Maybe I'd have to buy one on eBay and have it shipped.

These old things ain't to thick in my area either.I had to travel 500 km one way for the second one(had to be in the area anyway).
Most peoply nowadays think they are money ahead buying the new cheapy crap and replace them every couple years.:confused2:

I think that's a great idea. John Deer is a wonderful brand and I've only heard great things about them. They may be expensive but it's nothing you can't handle. Saving up can take time, but it's worth it for high quality:thumbsup:
