I stored the battery on a tender over the winter. When I went to install it tonight I reversed the polarity. Don’t ask me how I did something so boneheaded, it’s too stupid and embarrassing to recount. It was getting dark so I just disconnected it and didn’t reinstall. I’ll do that tomorrow morning. Hopefully I didn’t fry something in the charging or ignition system.​

I’m apparently becoming a danger to myself and others in my advancing years.

I feel your pain, getting old is tough, not for the faint of heart.
Slow down and smell the roses . . . it's hard!

It started right up and the ammeter indicates it's charging. I guess the Lord really does look out for fools.

dont be too hard on yourself... i am a 69 yr old retired mechaic, and ive done plenty of silly moves myself..."If i would have known id live this long, id have taken better care of myself "

Getting closer to 80 every day, I find that I make more mistakes than I think! I did in the past. I have come close to swapping the red and the black... but luckily took a second look. Not seeing the car stopped in the lane ahead as I glanced over at a intersting roadside attraction, but luckily theBoss noted, and made a lout comment happened once so far. Same trip, getting on the freeway, about to head back from where we started but catching on before making the turn... and then missing the turnoff for the I-10, and having to back track... made me realize old age had its 'features'.

As long as you didn't try to start, you didn't apply any volts in the wrong direction. I think. The +/- signs embossed in black plastic are not the best for old eyes.

I can't see sh!t anymore without reading glasses (I'm 67), and those damned positive/negative indicators are small, and as you said, black plastic, and usually covered with dirt. How simple would it have been way back when to make a standard such that only positive cables fit on positive terminals and same for negative, like a fitting specific for positive or negative...anyway, glad you didn't fry anything, and good on ya for catching it.

That's good news that no apparent damage has cropped up!

I thought years ago that one of the terminals was a different size?
