I have a John Deere Sabre 2048HV Garden Tractor & the K65 AM126957 Transaxle is bad

I have a John Deere Sabre 2048HV Garden Tractor & the K65 AM126957 Transaxle is bad.

Can I replace the transaxle h a Tuff Torq K66?

Are there any other transaxles that will work? I can't find any Tuff Torq K65 tranaxles.

The tractor is like new and has less than 400 hours on it.

Does any one have a used Trans axle for sale

Thanks Doug

A place called Surplus Center had the bigger TT transaxles for sale for under $300 a while back, new. Might search around for them and check. These transaxles with the gears and hydraulic units running in the same unfiltered oil sure seem to be a problem - sure no wonder why.

Checked https://www.surpluscenter.com/Power-Transmission/Transaxles & they no longer have the K66Y trans stock

Called Tuff Torq & they have no suggestions for a replacement. They did have a rebuild kit for over $500.00 but I read that its not so great.

John Deer suggested that I purchase X570 Lawn Tractor with 48-in. Deck for only $6,500 what a deal.

:welcome:

I'm going to move this thread over to our transmissions and transaxles section.
The John Deere section might also be a good place to ask.

What is exactly your issue with the rear end ???? Won't move in forward and reverse or 1 way works and not the other way ?????

The Sabre is more sold up north than down here in the south for some reason ..... A friend of mine up north picked one up not tooooo long ago, and he is well satisfied with it...........

The K65 Trans will not go backward or forward I had the John Deere dealer look at it & he said the trans had to be replaced but he could not fix it or come up with a replacement suggestion.

I also spoke to a John Deere rep, & he conveyed the same thing & no other dealer would look at it once one dealer gives a prognoses.

No one @ John Deere could tell me if there was a replacement trans for it like the K66 or the HYDRO-GEAR model T2-CDBE-5X1A-18C1

I'm very disappointed in John Deere, they advertise that nothing runs like a deere, the only thing that's still running is my old Wheel Horse 312-8 still cutting & plowing snow.

400 hours is not many hours for flat land cutting & snow plowing.

Around here a used John Deere L series with bad engine would sell for around 100 but you take a chance that the transmission is still good. I would shop around and see what you can come up with. The L100 series replaced the Sabre line of mowers. the L130 uses the K46 dont know for sure if it would fit your Sabre. Just a suggestion

Good idea I have been looking for older John Deere Garden tractors, the K45 is to light weight, a Tuff Torq K71 would be better from a John Deere GT235, but I don't know if it will fit.

But I'm searching

Thanks for your help

One thing to watch for is the axle diameter. The standard seems to be 3/4 inch with a keyway, your bigger hydro might be a 1 inch axle. Replacing wheels can get expensive if needed. And some axles are splined rather than keyed. I replaced my K46 TT (L130 mower) with a Peerless 2000 series that did bolt up to the frame and used the same wheels, but lots of mushfake for other parts. Wife says I should have junked the Deere and bought another brand but it's really hard to find anything with a decent hydrostat that can be relied on. I'm guessing these Chinese transmissions probably wholesale for about $35 each to the factories. Don't laugh, I'm serious.

I have been reading on this trans and it looks like the pulley strips out at the input shaft a lot. You might want to check that.
