My LT 1024 Trans axle will lock up sometimes when I stop, kill engine, and get off mower. Go drink coffee and come back, start engine, and the mower will not move forward or reverse. I am stumped.
Will the both turn the same direction at the same time? Have to release the bypass valve. Look at the brake disk and see if it’s spinning when turning tires.

they turn in opposite direction. the brake is free.
The brake works on the layshaft which locks the diff so each wheel turns in opposite directions thus you go nowhere.
The P on an auto tranny in a car works exactly the same
With the wheels in the air & the bypass open ( or belt removed ) and brake off you should be able to turn BOTH of the wheels in the same direction.
If you can not then the diff is locked which usually means that the brake is on.
