I have a Husqvarna 123L weed Trimmer. It ran for about 30 seconds at full speed then died out of gas. I filled it up and now when I pull the rope, the rope does not go back. I took out the sparkplug and now when I pull the rope it turns the engine clockwise like it should when starting but when I release the rope the motor turns backward as the rope rewinds. The rope will not rewind unless the sparkplug is out. I took off the starting rope housing and it works as it should pulls out and returns easily. Is there something which keeps the engine from turning backward as the rope retracts?

The starting pawls have jambed so when the spring rewinds the cord the engine rotates backwards.
This is not uncommon if there is no spark plug to provide resistance and make them retract
Somewhat like trying to turn a very loose nut with a ratchet so the nut just goes back & forth because there is not enough resistance to make the ratchet slip .
