Just picked up an HRB216HXA. Engine runs well and it cuts well. There is no cable attached to the transmission. The cable is just dangling near the transmission. Looks like there was an attempt to fix by the previous owner. The cable that's hanging there is what I call a push pull cable like a choke cable. It's solid wire with a casing, not braided. I've been Googling around and it appears that the replacement cables are braided and are what I would call a pull cable.

Online these cables are called control cable or a drive clutch cable part number 54630-VE1-W02. Before picking one of these up I just want to make certain that some of these mowers did not take a solid wire cable to engage the transmission.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

If that part # is what's showing as correct, then I'd trust that over anything that appeared on a used mower. For all you know, it was a botched repair and they just grabbed whatever cable they had.

For what it's worth, I do believe Honda uses flex cables that are braided, not solid ones. Like, 98% sure of that.

Consider: If they used solid core cabling, the first time anyone folded the handle for transport or storage, they'd likely kink the cable.
