How shall you be preparing your mower for winter?

Will you use the good old fashioned method of keeping the oil and fuel in the mower and firing it up once a week during the winter months, or will you drain the fuel and change the oil then let it lie until the Spring?

I shall be doing the latter mainly because my shed is cluttered as it is without taking a mower in and out weekly just to run it for 10 minutes then put it back again.

I will take it out maybe twice a week and run everything (2 mowers; weedwacker, blower). Since the oil I use in the handheld equip. has built in fuel stabilizers, there is no need to drain it.

I do not do anything as we cut grass year round here.
I stay very busy in the winter.
The cold months are the best time to cut back trees and shrubs. And to plant new shrubs and lay sod

Well, it looks like both of my riding mowers at home will be undergoing repairs. We've had them for quite some time. One of them needs a complete set of hydraulics. Work mowers are in pretty good condition.

I just start up my 3 mowers & weedeater every couple of weeks, been doing it for years, seems to work OK.:thumbsup:

For my push mower I just ran it dry of gas, changed the oil, put a little oil in the cylinder, sprayed the deck with rust proof (rust check) cleaned the air filter and pushed it to the back of the shed. Then I moved the snowblower outside, filled it with gas, started it on the third pull, then closed the shut off valve on the fuel line and ran it dry. Pushed it back into the front of the shed for easy access when the snow comes.

My two tractors at my cottage will get oil changes and parts lubed to store them for the winter. New air filters before next years start up and they should be good to go.
