How does spark get generated on this 500Wi inverter generator?

I always appreciate and value the advice I get on this forum, so thanks in advance. I'm working on repairing a Powerhouse 500Wi inverter generator. Engine starts and runs fine (so there is spark), but I'm trying to understand how spark is able to be generated. As shown in the photo, an XG-GBO1 ignition coil sits above empty space (my thumb is touching the bottom of one of the coil legs in the photo). There is no rotating magneto anywhere near the coil legs, nevertheless spark is generated just fine. Even under the plastic shroud behind the ignition coil there is nothing near the coil legs. The coil has 3 wires: one goes to the spark plug, one is connected to ground, and one connects to the potted inverter module. Is this a case where the electronics within the inverter module provides the buildup/collapse of current to the coil primary, so no magneto is needed? If so, I guess the inverter module must be getting enough power from a coil in the stator to initiate this process? Any-hoo, I'd like to get schooled on this from anyone who has a better understanding of how this sort of thing works.

It appears they are using an point style coil and trigging it with an impulse off a sensor on the other end. This trigger is item #46 on the following diagram using item #108.
