hooked up battery backwards...now what?

2001 MTD Yard Machine Tecumseh Enduro 13.0 XL/C OV.....yes yes hooked up battery backwards.....tried starting for maybe 20 minutes was "spinning"...little smoke billowing up through flywheel screen...starter was hot to the touch.....hooked battery up correctly...now nothing at all......help!!!

You might of burned up the ignition module, plus

When you reversed polarity it spun the engine CCw backwards............ There's all manner of things it could have done. Could have fried the battery, could have fried the starter ect. Try letting it cool down and different battery first........

Agreed with the above posts. You may have cost yourself some money but you didn't do any major damage. If you did that on an EFI vehicle you could do major damage.
