Was mowing front lawn and ran out of gas. Mower reacted strange. Filled up with gas, it will only attempt to start and then go dead. Seems
to me that action has to do with gas flow.

Sounds like you will need to clean your carb up If you have gas coming out of the fuel line going into the carb chances are pretty good that it will need a carb cleaning. When I repair them I don't completely empty the gas tank and leave a little gas in the tank to see if the line is clogged or cracked.
 
There was probably something the the bottom of your fuel tank and when u ran it dry you sucked some debris into carb.

So carb cleaning in order
