Honda HF1211 Hydrostatic Trasnmission - Reverse not working

Good day from England.

So we've just bought a house with a large garden, and purchased a ride on mower (10 YO Honda HF1211 hydrostatic) as part of the sale. Seems to fire up OK, and moves forward OK. Cutting deck works fine, but reversing is not very good, and quite hit and miss.

The local mower place in Cheltenham says that it probably needs a new hydrostatic gearbox which is just over £1000. The mower costs 2500 new so, that's clearly not an option.

My question is, can these transmissions be serviced with an oil change? After ten years I wouldn't be surprised if the fluid was like water.....If so what oil should I use?

Thanks

Page 14 states that transaxle is filled with grease & is permanently sealed unit. I would remove & disassemble keeping parts in order & inspecting parts for wear. Remember Safety First using jack stands etc. Let us know how it goes, thanks, Mark
