Hi to you all, I stumbled across this site a week ago & have answered a few questions already the best i could, I live in the north island in New Zealand, the mower shop i work at sells both Stihl & Husqvarna products plus many others. I am a Briggs & Stratton MST also a Kohler autherised tech, Husqvarna gold tech, intermediate Stihl tech, so i hope i can help with answering questions from time to time, so far i have enjoied reading your posts.

Welcome to the LMF! You have a beautiful country down there, but with 9.0+ quakes, it sounds somewhat dangerous. Still would love to visit there. I'm a Yank (as you call us) on the East side of the state of Tennessee. About 500km inland from the Atlantic next to the state of North Carolina about 70km from the border. Is there much call for small engine mechanics in the Land of the Kiwi? Dave

Thanks, yep it's a nice place to live, most of the shakes are in the south island (a long way from where we are). I have a friend that lives around the corner who is a yank from Baltimore MD, he loves living here & does'nt think that he will go back to the U.S. hope you wern't too affected by superstorm Sandy. as for small engine mechanics there will always be a need for blokes (or girls) like us anywhere.

We weren't but the people in New Jersey and New York were! It was as bad as Hurricane Katrina in some places. Houses absolutely demolished like a tornado went through! There was high winds, flooding, and fires!!! A lot of people still don't have power, but that doesn't matter when you no longer have a house!

No, we didn't get hit by it at all. This was only a Category 1 storm, but was wide. Parts of New York are barely a few feet above sea level out on Long Island area. So a storm surge would be devastating not to mention a 2 story high wave! There is a range of mountains between me and the Atlantic although we still get torrential rains from hurricanes that come in from time to time.
Way back in 1812 or 1814 there was a massive quake that struck the Western Tennessee area north of Memphis and South of St. Louis that changed the course of the river and created a huge lake! Said it rang church bells in the North East USA! I'm sure there's work up there in NYC area for small engine mechanics with all this devastation for generators and pumps.
