Help with a Snapper

I ahve a snapper with a 10 horse Briggs. I was running it this weekend and all was going smoothly. I shut it off and it back fired, and know the engine seems to be locked up. It was running fine until I shut it off. Any ideas?

I would pull the plug and see if it will turn over by hand. Is there any metal in the oil?
