Hello from Roseville (Suburb of St. Paul), MN
I have stumbled across this forum several times in the past while searching for mower models and engine stuff.
I am into just about anything with an engine! I am a Lawn-Boy fan so I like anything Lawn-Boy related. I also like vintage audio equipment and listening to music on vinyl, cassette and 8-track (I save the CDs to the MacBook and the Jeep). I also like antique electrical devices (like outlets, push button and rotary switches, Edison base plug fuses and the panels, know and tube, light sockets, cloth covered wire, early light bulbs and so on). I have a collection of Cox engines, model engines made between the early 1950s up until 2008 and used for model airplanes, cars and other projects. I run a online forum for those engines called "Cox Engine Forum".
Recently I have been looking for Lawn-Boy 2 cycle oil in the can (not the bottle). I'm not 100% sure if it is true or not but I have been told by several hardware store guys and a few Lawn-Boy enthusiasts who I talk to believe the formula has changed when Lawn-Boy transitioned from the can to the bottle in the past year or 2. I know the formula has changed several times in the past while Lawn-Boy changed oil companies and had to follow changing EPA regulations but the new stuff seems to be of the cheapest quality (seems to be thinner). According to many people who I have talked to and some of my own observations, the best LB oil was the stuff available in the 1980s (the white and green cans with the yellow stripe). I could easily and safely use most of any other 2 stroke oil in my Lawn-Boy but I still like using Lawn-Boy oil as long as I can get it. The mower lasted since 1979 so why not keep using the stuff (of course unless the new stuff is of poor quality). So far it is like the canned LB oil has completely disappeared from all store shelves. Some of the guys at hardware stores have even said that people have asked for the canned LB oil before me. Every time I stop at a store, I take a look to see if they have it. Just today, I found 3 cans of it at a gas station, the first time finding it since Fall 2010!
I look forward to reading and posting on here!
