I was prompted to sign up for Lawn Mower Forum because of some recent intermittent stating problems with a Toro 252L Zero turn mower. The original starter lasted 13 years. But I now on my second rebuilt starter within a four year period. Now this one is acting up. Sometimes it starts fine. Other times it acts as if the battery is weak, which is not the case. After four or five tries it finally turns over and starts. Could it just be a weak solenoid. Should I try to order one directly from a Toro dealer rather than an aftermarket place?

If the engine turns over lumpy, strains the spins quick for 2 turns then strains again
The valve lash that you are supposed to check every 200 hours has opened up so the decompression is not working
or
The auto decompressor is not working
or
The cam is stuffed
