Hedge Trimmers...Sharpen or bust?

Is it worth the time to sharpen my Roybi Hedge Trimmer attachment or should I invest in a more durable gas hedge trimmer. Also, does anyone have a faster, more efficient way to sharpen the trimmers?

My poulon blades are cheap they break completely off and I am looking to replace them. That being said when I sharpen them I use a small cut off tool on each edge it takes a while but if done carefully with the proper angle will make it act as new. For a long time I used my air compressor to drive it but I am going to buy an electric one because my air compressor is really small.

I just finished trimming afew evergreen bushes and the tips look shredded and in my opinion they almost look Unprofessional....my first reaction was my trimmer blades were dull and if they were sharp the tips of the evergreen would look clean cut.
I guess what I'm trying to ask is it common for the edges of a trimmed bush to not always look cleanly cut/sliced

Sometimes the tips of branches can look brown for a bit because they almost have to rejuvenate after the trimming. Almost like when you cut a large amount of grass off of the lawn and it looks brown after that. But chances are the hedge trimmers need to be sharpened, also.

You should probably ditch the ryobi trimmers, if your doing much commercial trimming. I understand Echo or Stihl are expensive but they run stronger and the blades are made from better metal, so they will cut better and stay sharper. JMHO you can only use what your pocket book allows you to use. I can tell you we use Stihl hedge trimmers and i can trim 3 times faster and cleaner then the LCO across from me using cheap hedge trimmers.

I have a cheap Black and Decker hedge trimmer electric. 8 years old. Have trimmed a good many bushes, heavy tall weeds, saplings, plumb thickets. They have never been sharpened and I do not think they would be worth sharpening. They still cut well. Are a good many nicks in the cutter from hitting wire.

Blades have to be tight but not to tight loose blades tear more than cut

Hey Exotion: I am considering purchasing an "Echo PAS Hedge Trimmer Attachment" for $169 at Home Depot... I own a Toro Straight Shaft 25.4 cc gas power head... I love it, works great and the universal attachments have really come in handy except for this $70 Roybi Hedge Trimmers...I trust "Echo" equipment but need advice if Echo's Gas Hedge Trimmers, specifically their gas hedge trimmer attachment, if they are good quality trimmers?

I've never used the attachment but I have used a regular echo hedgers and a shaft or stick hedger both worked great just follow proper fuel mix and maintainence schedule.

If the pas is as good as the shaft hedger you are in good shape make sure you get the head where you can adjust the angle of the head

I don't know about the PAS attachment hedge trimmers, but everyone loves their regular hedge trimmers. I was going to buy one but couldn't justify spending the money since I only use them a couple of times a year, so I bought a Black & Decker 22" electric hedge trimmer today. I used it on 13 bushes and I love it!

I just use a chain saw and hack the crap out of them. Just kidding. I hate seeing people do that.

I use a stihl hs80 24 inch bar.
And I have a add on trimmer for the ryobi

(( cowboy up and get over it ))
