I have an older Hustler ZT that could use some paint...a lot actually. Thinking about sanding it down, a little primer on the metal and plastic adhesive on the tank and going to town with a nice bright yellow finish and twin black stripes...lol. Anyone modifying their ZT's for the sheer fact that they can?

I've never repainted a z but I've repainted a lot of machines :) best thing I recommend is self etching primer :)

I agree with the self etching primer. I was just hoping that someone had taken the plunge and was willing to speak on it. No worries. I have time paint and ideas.

i sen all this type of gear out for chemical stripping back to bare metal.
Follow that with POR 15 chassis paint which is very thin & gets into all the knooks & crannies, down around tack weds etc.
When dry this stuff is unbelievably chemically & mechanically tough so it is the last time you will ever paint your mower or ever see bare metal on it .
Down side is it is not UV stable so you must put a top coat but that can be any type of paint.
Also 100 water tight so you can leave the more out in the rain & it will not start to rust under the paint & bubble off.

Mine is still new, so I'm waxing it.. I do also have chrome rear lug nut 'covers' on mine, & stainless O-ring air valve caps.

But used to paint a good bit, I would suggest an 'adhesion promoter' in prepping the plastic pieces..

Powder coat is awesome, but that is a farm out deal. On the Paint, go easy on adding hardener, too much will make the paint chip off very easily, as it makes the paint very brittle..

I prefer the paint to be a bit softer, so it could scuff, as opposed to chip off, but easy to buff out (if necessary).

Hello Kaiendogg, I to are in the process of stripping and painting my GREAT DANE SUPER SURPER STANDER I strip it down to bare metal and used sandable primer with the same brand paint. I was going to use paint hardener, but after reading the directions it said the fumes are very dangerous without the right safety mask so I didn't want to deal with it. I plan on posting it when I'm finished with it. com/maps/api/staticmap?center=44.983206,-92.668837&zoom=14&markers=44.983206,-92.668837&size =400x300&sensor=true[/IMG]
