While mulching leaves yesterday my GX 345 made a strange noise and ceased to move, either forward or back, any ideas?

Sounds like your primary drive belt is loose or broken. You have to take the deck off to even see it way up under there. If so, you have to remove the PTO clutch using an impact wrench to replace the belt.
